ACTION

  • The previous minutes were adopted and seconded by Rupert Bezuidenhout and Captain Ngele.
  • The Captain advised that crime prevention operations were still being done throughout the sector on a weekly basis.
  • Two suspects had been arrested with the help of Pirana Security.
  • The Captain advised that he received a lot of emails highlighting problems and he does respond to these.
  • It was advised that vagrants had been found new the pedestrian bridge over the highway in Fairlands.  They keep returning and are a risk to the school children that use the bridge.  Norman suggested that patrols were done there before and after school each day.
  • A school child was robbed at knife point on the corner of JG Strydom and Jim Fouchie.  Lots of people sit there daily.  Please could this be cleared.
  • Lots of vagrants especially at night near Protea Glen between Without and the Highway.  These need to be removed.
  • Captain Ngele advised that he has spoken to The Director and Sen Sup Van Rooyen about the vagrant problem.  They are removed and then return.  He needs advise.
  • It was suggested that City Parks be involved to keep the area clear.  All RA’s with vagrant problems to contact their councillor to arrange.
  • It was decided that vagrants need to be removed on a more regular basis so that they would move elsewhere.
  • Norman advised that his area is having a lot of problems with people jumping over garden walls and breaking into cars.  It has reached a stage where they now remove all valuables and leave the cars unlocked.
  • Captain Ngele advised that a raid was performed on the pub at Palm Court.  As they did not have a liquour licence the place was closed down and all liquour was confiscated.  The new owner has now got a licence and it has been re-opened.
  • Drug dealers were arrested from the petrol station at Palm Court.  They had a box built under the car that they had all the drugs in.
  • The white polo that was wanted for garage robberies was arrested with the assistance of ADT.  Captain Ngele to please send info of what they were wanted for to Rupert Bezuidenhout.
  • All RA’s requested that any information regarding wanted people or vehicles be sent out to the RA’s so that they could forward the information to their residents.  This way there would be a lot of people on the look out.  Security companies to also be alerted.
  • The blitz planned for the 29th was cancelled because members of the community would be under the supervision of the police and they would be held liable for any problems.  Norman was very upset about the cancellation of the blitz.  It was embarrassing for RA’s to rally around getting helpers, buying jackets etc only to have it cancelled at the last minute.  Norman would like an answer as to why this was not thought out before the RA’s were asked for help.  He feels it makes SAPS and RA’s look like a joke and this is why meetings are so badly attended and why we don’t get the support from the community.  It will be embarrassing for us to ask for help again in the future.
  • There are still a lot of problems at the gym.  They do not have a security company.  Rupert will contact them.
  • Rupert advised that although he had offered to assist SAPS and offered to attend meetings he has not been included.  Rupert has offered to tackle the vagrant problem in the greenbelts.  He will need one police vehicle and one or two policemen.  His staff are well trained.  It was suggested that they start at the highway and work their way up to Without bridge.  Neville offered to assist in showing them the spots where the vagrants are.  This is to be done as regularly as possible until the vagrants move elsewhere.
  • Penny Steyn does workshops for domestic workers.  She has sponsors and the cost is minimal.  Domestic workers will receive a certificate.  Rupert to please send Sharon Penny’s details.  Sharon to get information regarding the workshops.  Norman to find out if we could have the workshops  Weltevreden Primary School.  All Ra’s in the sector will be asked to invite domestic workers from their area.
  • Please add the following addresses to your Sector Email folder:
