Hi John

I have just got back from court where I was a witness to my case of armed robbery at the beginning of this year. This is the case whereby 3 suspects were caught by Honeydew Police in the Weltevreden Park area and are linked to numerous armed robberies and house robberies in the area.

I was very disappointed at US!!  Out of 5 or 6 cases linking to the above, only I showed up as a witness. The others, not available, too scared, or just not interested...........................however we are the ones continuously complaining about the level of crime in this country!!!!???
SIS is all I can say - why open up a case with the police if you as a citizen, of this country, are not prepared to follow through with the case - should you be in a fortunate position for it to come to court???
I do not understand my bretheren's complacency and non interest in being part of the solution and not the cause of the problem.

Now I all of a sudden understand - Carte Blanche's story on Sunday about the Juditional system - hallo - those that do not appear at court as witnesses are contributing to the backlog and falling down of the system.  Cases are being postponed continually because of excuses and non - appearances of witnesses.

My experience of going to court this morning was incredibly empowering and I have regained much of my dignity lost on that terrible day in January.  I looked each of the suspects square on, with pride, diginity and a belonging to this country just as much as they do!!  However I will not stand down or bury my head in the sand when it comes to doing my duty as a citizen of this country.

STOP BEING PART OF THE PROBLEM, STAND UP, BE HEARD, HAVE PRIDE IN OUR COUNTRY, AND BECOME PART OF THE SOLUTION.

Regards
Marina Plank

PS: WELL DONE TO the Honeydew Police Station on this case and your hard work.  Sorry that the citizens have failed you by not completing the process, which is so badly needed to heal this country.

Hi

My wife is currently attending a course in the Honeydew area for a week, and it was of great comfort that your community appears to be organised the way you are.  Being about 400km away from her means placing a lot of reliance on people one doesn’t know for help in emergencies – the publication of the relevant contact numbers on your website where accessible to visitors is very helpful.

Our own situation has been quite hairy over the past few months, and we have learnt the value of good communication and cooperation between the SAPS and the community.

Please can I place on record sincere thanks to Inspector Massyn of the Honeydew SAPS. She interviewed our security guard involved in the robbery in our complex and has been in regular contact with me regarding the robberies at our complex and the surrounding area. It is refreshing to deal with someone so competent, professional and interested in the problem from the SAPS side. With people of this calibre on the case I am confident that it will be cracked soon.

Thank you once again

Dear John Baisley,

As I have been a resident in Honeydew since 1981, I have to congratulate you on your webpage! I remember the Honeydew Police Station when they used to put the criminals they caught under the front desk until they could be removed ....... A lot has happened since then to the station and the crime statistics. I thank the police for their efforts knowing that they are often hampered to perform their duties and how hard they work.

Regards

Mrs. L. Heckl
